designing
a trustworthy
person-to-person
electronic payment system
context
From Oct. 2000 to Oct. 2001, I
supervised a group of 6 students taking the user-system
interaction program in
technological design. This group spent the equivalent of 42
days, spread over one year, to develop a person-to-person e-payment
system exhibiting trust-inducing features.
objective
The objective of this project was to come up
with a web-based high-fidelity prototype of a (third-party) system
that would allow people to send and receive money online. Although
technical and business issues were addressed, the stress of this
development project was on the user interface; namely:
conceptual design (what functionality should the system support?),
information design and architecture (what information do users need
and at what point?), interface design (what would make the system
look appealing, professional and trustworthy?) and usability (ease
of use, efficiency, satisfaction, etc).

prototype
The resulting prototype is
available online. Please bear in mind that it is not
fully-functional and that the site is not any more maintained due to
the students having completed the course.
